Our Quest began in Winter 2008 at Country Rubes Farm in Grass Valley, CA: An interview with Janet Brisson and her innovative bee boards
January 2009: We filmed at the American Beekeeping Federation annual convention in Reno, Nevada. Little ol' us, Hollywooders and a Giant Irish Doc Crew. The beekeepers have become a media magnet.
March 2009 continued with the story of a 9 year old beekeeper and her grandpa in Northern Cali.
April 2009 got interesting as we visited George Washington's homesite in Mount Vernon, Virginia where they are keeping, guess what? Not peanuts.
October found us in Santa Cruz extracting honey with scientist & teacher Manfred Warmuth.
On October 16th, we attended the preliminary opening of the UC Davis Honey Bee Haven garden project.
In Fall 2009 we filmed local folks, highlighting our pollinator experts, those making gifts from the bees and backyard beekeepers. Thanks to local pollinator expert Karen & beekeepers Randy & Chris for the sharing of their bee efforts.
In late fall '09 EcoKids bee education at the Nevada City Imaginarium was a buzzing affair for the whole family. Thanks to the Deep Ecology Institute!
Spring 2010 led us to the bee advocacy group Partners for Sustainable Pollination, the BeeKind shop in Sebastapol & the San Francisco Bee Club & their infamous rooftop beekeepers.
2010 got bzzy with a visit to Her Majesty's Secret Beekeeper, the first bee shop in San Francisco, and to Almeny Farms, a freeway-side social justice-based community garden with it's bee hives.
Late spring 2010 brought us to humbly witness a sacred bee ritual at the Melissa Garden, honey bee sanctuary in Healdsburg, CA.
We continued our Nevada County quest lastsummer, finding local beekeepers doing their bee thing. We also began seeking out what "local" truly means to our community with Think Local First, Nevada County Grown, the Briar Patch Co-Op and Ike's Quarter Cafe.
Next stop? Sharing our completed film to our local community and beyond, starting with "Part One" at the Wild and Scenic Film Fest, then a full showing at the Magic Theatre.
